Elle adopte la structure typique du recit : ¦ La situation initiale consiste en une longue presentation qui oppose nettement les deux personnages, laissant presager un conflit a venir (v. Hamlet's To Be Or Not To Be! 1-13) : d’un cote, le Savetier chante avec plaisir et virtuosite tout le jour, de l’autre, le Financier est empeche de dormir et se plaint . ¦ Arrive l’ element perturbateur (v. Definition Christian Religion! 14-36) : la rencontre entre les deux personnages, et plus largement, l’argent que le financier donne au savetier. ¦ Suivent les peripeties entre les vers 37 et 46 : il s’agit des consequences du don pour le Savetier dont le mode de vie change completement.
Il ne chante plus, ne dort plus et devient inquiet et paranoiaque pour son argent. ¦ Enfin survient la resolution (v. To Be! 46-49) : le Savetier decide de rendre precipitamment les ecus au Financier pour retrouver son mode de vie insouciant . La variete des rythmes et des rimes donne une impression de vivacite au recit, ce qui le rend agreable pour le lecteur. En effet, La Fontaine alterne entre l’ octosyllabe et l’ alexandrin : la fable est donc heterometrique . Ces irregularites permettent a La Fontaine de mettre l’accent sur certains vers : ¦ Par leur brievete, les vers courts mettent en relief certains elements de la fable, notamment l’ opposition entre les personnages. Par exemple, a la description des effets du chant du Savetier repond la reaction du Financier : « C’etait merveilles de le voir » (v.
2) ; « plus content qu’aucun des sept sages » (v. Toyota Recalls! 4) / « chantait peu, dormait moins encor » (v. Hamlet's Soliloquy To Be Or Not! 6) ; « Et le Financier se plaignait » (v. Definition! 10). ¦ En jouant avec les rythmes , La Fontaine defend plus efficacement son propos.
A ce titre, les six premiers vers , alternant de maniere reguliere entre octosyllabes et alexandrins, instaurent une regularite que vient briser le vers 7 : « C’etait un homme de finance ». Le fabuliste laisse ainsi entrevoir que cette caracteristique du personnage, un « homme de finance », va bouleverser l’equilibre des premiers vers. La brutalite de cette interruption rend par ailleurs manifeste le regard negatif qu’il porte sur le personnage du Financier. Les rimes participent egalement de cette impression de vivacite . Les rimes suivies contribuent notamment a la regularite des vers 1 a 6, que le mot « finance » vient briser au vers 7 : « s oir » / « v oir » ; « pa ssage » / « sages » ; « d’ or » / « enc or » ; « finance » / « sommeillait ». On observe egalement des rimes croisees (« dormir » / « boire » / « venir » / « Gregoire » (v. Or Not To Be! 12-15), et des rimes embrassees , qui insistent sur le bouleversement des habitudes du Savetier, puisqu’elles apparaissent pour la premiere fois au vers 34 : « terre » / « ans » / « gens » / « enserre » v. Layoffs Devon! 34-37.
De par ces irregularites , la fable apparait a la fois vive et plaisante pour le lecteur. Les rejets et enjambements donnent de l’ elan a l’ensemble du recit. Ils permettent de mettre en relief la relation entre les deux personnages : ¦ Les rejets et enjambements soulignent tout d’abord l’enthousiasme et la bonhomie du Savetier qui, lorsqu’il parle, fait de longues phrases : « ce n’est point ma maniere / De compter de la sorte ; et je n’entasse guere / Un jour sur l’autre : il suffit qu’a la fin / J’attrape le bout de l’annee » (v. Soliloquy Or Not To Be! 18-21). ¦ Par contraste, la quasi absence de rejets ou d’enjambements dans le discours du Financier insiste sur le fait qu’il parle sans detour , de maniere abrupte et efficace . Le rejet du mot « chanteur » au vers 15 souligne l’ opinion negative qu’il se fait du Savetier : « En son hotel il fait venir / Le chanteur , et lui dit :Or ca, Sire Gregoire ». ¦ Enfin, a partir du vers 34, les rejets et enjambements insistent sur le grand bouleversement que l’argent provoque dans la vie du Savetier qui apparait comme submerge : « Le Savetier crut voir tout l’argent que la terre / Avait, depuis plus de cent ans » (v. Layoffs Devon! 34-35) ; (Rejet) « Il retourne chez lui, dans sa cave il enserre / L’argent et sa joie a la fois » (v. To Be Or Not To Be! 37-38). Layoffs Devon! (Enjambement) L’alternance entre le discours du narrateur et le discours direct des deux personnages confere egalement une dimension ludique et vivante a la fable. Enfin, les temps du recit varies accentuent le dynamisme de la fable qui apparait a ce titre plaisante pour le lecteur : imparfait « chantaient » (v.
1), present « fait » (v. Soliloquy To Be Or Not To Be! 14), passe simple « crut » (v. Management Style! 34). En donnant des signes de son regard bienveillant sur le savetier, La Fontaine le fait paraitre sympathique aux yeux du lecteur. S’il est designe par son metier dans le titre meme de la fable, « le Savetier », il est dans le reste du texte caracterise par l’activite a laquelle il consacre tout son temps pour le plaisir , le chant : « Un Savetier chantait du matin jusqu’au soir » (v. Hamlet's Soliloquy To Be To Be! 1). La Fontaine insiste sur le fait que le plaisir de la musique surpasse celui de la philosophie : « Plus content qu’aucun des sept sages » (v. System Analyst Skills! 4). Il suggere ainsi qu’il s’agit pour le Savetier d’une philosophie de vie simple qui se rapproche de l’ epicurisme : vivre une vie de joie et de plaisir au jour le jour, non pas une vie sage et prevoyante regie par le travail (« Je n’entasse guere / Un jour sur l’autre : il suffit qu’a la fin / J’attrape le bout de l’annee : / Chaque jour amene son pain » v. Hamlet's Soliloquy To Be! 20-22). Le savetier est ainsi presente comme un personnage positif : ¦ Il est jovial , et offre de la joie autour de lui : « merveilles de le voir » (v. Skills! 2) ; « Merveilles de l’ouir » (v.
3) ; « content » (v. To Be Or Not To Be! 4). ¦ Il apparait comme un bon vivant , ce dont temoignent son « ton de rieur » (v. Toyota Recalls! 17) et le terme employe par La Fontaine pour le caracteriser, « le gaillard Savetier » (v. Soliloquy Or Not To Be! 18). ¦ Il est naif , mais ce trait de caractere est depeint avec humour , ce qui le rend sympathique : Il s’adresse par exemple en riant au Financier qu’il essaie de traiter avec egard, repetant sa question comme incredule : « Par an definition christian religion, ? Ma foi, Monsieur / Dit avec un ton de rieur, / Le gaillard Savetier » (v. Hamlet's Soliloquy To Be To Be! 16-18) Ses longues phrases maladroites soulignent qu’il prend le Financier pour un confident bienveillant et qu’il ne pense pas a s’en mefier . ¦ Il est impressionne par la somme d’argent qu’il a entre les mains, La Fontaine insistant sur son innocence en usant d’une hyperbole : « Le Savetier crut voir tout l’argent que la terre / Avait, depuis plus de cent ans , / Produit pour l’usage des gens » (v. Toyota Recalls! 34-36)
Le fabuliste dresse ainsi un portrait humoristique attendri , et meme laudatif du Savetier. En temoignent egalement les hyperboles qui le caracterisent : « merveilles de le voir » (v. Hamlet's Or Not To Be! 2) ; « merveilles de l’ouir » (v. Skills! 3) ; « plus content qu’aucun des sept sages » (v. To Be Or Not! 4). A la difference du Savetier, le personnage du Financier n’est pas sympathique pour le lecteur. L’ opposition entre les deux personnages est d’ailleurs soulignee des l’introduction du Financier par le connecteur « au contraire » (v. Care Definition! 6) : Son voisin au contraire , etant tout cousu d’or . A la difference du Savetier, le Financier est entierement caracterise par son metier , qui a trait a l’ argent : ¦ Il jouit d’une certaine richesse qui traduit son materialisme : « tout cousu d’or » (v.
5). ¦ La rupture rythmique du vers 7 (deux octosyllabes au lieu d’une alternance alexandrin / octosyllabes) souligne que c’est son rapport a l’argent , lie a son metier, qui va perturber la situation initiale : « C’etait un homme de finance ». ¦ Il regrette de ne pouvoir acheter le sommeil comme on or not to be achete a manger et a boire, car il considere que l’argent est la solution a tout probleme, raison pour laquelle il tente d’ acheter le Savetier . ¦ La Fontaine insiste avec ironie sur son rapport obsessionnel a l’argent en montrant qu’il n’y a de place pour rien d’autre dans sa vie : « Son voisin, au contraire, etant tout cousu d’or, / Chantait peu, dormait moins encor » (v. Analyst Skills! 5-6). Le participe present « etant tout cousu d’or » suggere une relation de cause a effet entre sa richesse et le fait qu’il ne chante ni ne dort.
¦ Par ailleurs, la gradation descendante , avec la double negation , insiste sur la dimension negative du personnage : « Chantait peu , dormait moins encor ». Sa parole, frontale et efficace , montre qu’il pense que tout est affaire d’argent : « Or ca, Sire Gregoire / Que gagnez-vous par an to be, ? » (v. Style! 15-16) ; « Eh bien ! Que gagnez-vous, dites-moi, par journee ? » (v. Soliloquy! 23). Il apparait a ce titre manipulateur et meprisant a l’egard du Savetier auquel il tend un piege : « Le Financier, riant de sa naivete, / Lui dit : « Je vous veux mettre aujourd’hui sur le trone . Toyota Recalls! / Prenez ces cent ecus : gardez-les avec soin, / Pour vous en servir au besoin. To Be! » (v.
30-33) C – Le point de vue de La Fontaine. La morale implicite de la fable repose sur la relation entre les personnages . C’est en juxtaposant un portrait elogieux du Savetier, et un portrait negatif du Financier, que La Fontaine fait subtilement entendre son point de vue sur le recit. Il s’agit ainsi d’un apologue : le recit est utilise pour faire passer une morale . En effet, le lecteur est du cote du personnage qui lui est sympathique : il suit donc le parcours du Savetier . Son evolution est ainsi un moyen de rendre le message du fabuliste clair pour le lecteur : jovial, simple, et insouciant, le savetier devient inquiet, insomniaque, obsessionnel et paranoiaque apres avoir accepte l’argent du Financier. La Fontaine insiste sur le bouleversement cause par l’argent : ¦ La ponctuation, comme les deux points du v.39 souligne la consequence fatale de la transaction avec le Financier : « Plus de chant : il perdit la voix » (v. Hamlet's To Be Or Not To Be! 39). ¦ Les enumerations associees a la brievete des octosyllabes mettent en avant la transformation du personnage : « Le sommeil quitta son logis / Il eut pour hotes les soucis, / les soupcons, les alarmes vaines » (v. System Analyst Skills! 41-43). ¦ Le vers 44 faisant echo au vers 1 souligne le quotidien bouleverse du Savetier : « Un Savetier chantait du matin jusqu’au soir » (v. Soliloquy To Be To Be! 1) //
« Tout le jour il avait l’?il au guet ; et la nuit » (v. Cafe De Coral Menu! 44). ¦ Enfin, le qualificatif « le pauvre homme » insiste sur le fait que le personnage, en gagnant de l’argent, a perdu ce qui faisait sa richesse . La Fontaine affirme ainsi que l’amour de l’argent est absolument oppose a la joie de vivre : « Il retourne chez lui ; dans sa cave il enserre. L’argent et sa joie a la fois » (v. To Be Or Not! 37-38). Il conclut que la musique et le sommeil , le plaisir de vivre, donc, valent mieux que l’argent : « Rendez-moi, lui dit-il, mes chansons et mon somme, / Et reprenez vos cent ecus » (v. De Coral Menu! 48-49). Renoncant a l’argent pour retrouver le bonheur, le naif Savetier apparait comme etant le plus intelligent : plus intelligent que le Financier, mais egalement que nous les hommes. La Fontaine s’inclut en effet lui-meme, ainsi que le lecteur, dans le recit, en usant du possessif « nos » au vers 40 : « Du moment qu’il gagna ce qui cause nos peines ». Il critique ainsi la tendance des hommes a ne pas voir que l’argent fait le malheur . Le Savetier et le Financier, conclusion : La fable Le Savetier et le Financier est bien un apologue , puisque sous ses allures de recit plaisant pour le lecteur, elle delivre une morale qui l’invite a reflechir . Mettant en scene des figures non pas animales mais humaines , La Fontaine fait une critique tres fine du rapport que l’homme entretient avec l’ argent , le confondant avec un bonheur qui lui est en fait parfaitement oppose . Cependant, lors de la redaction, j’hesite enormement dans le sens ou, je me dis : Est-ce qu’il faut que j’ecrive le titre de mon axe ou pas ? Est-ce qu’il que je mentionne l’enjeu/problematique dans mon commentaire ? Ce style de questions.
Du coup, et je perds un temps fou, et je ne termine pas la redaction de mon axe de lecture. Si tu pouvais m’eclaircir les idees par rapport a ca, ce serait juste super ! Sur mon site, j’utilise des titres apparents pour mes axes et sous-parties afin de rendre mes commentaires plus digestes et vous aider a les memoriser. Neanmoins, dans tes devoirs, les titres ne doivent pas etre apparents mais rediges , c’est a dire que tu dois annoncer tes axes de lecture et tes sous-parties sous la forme d’une phrase redigee.
